Donald V. King Jr.

Don King Jr., formerly of Whitefish, passed away suddenly due to natural causes in Great Falls on Dec. 6, 2021. Don was born March 23, 1948 in Whitefish to Don Sr. and Barbara Mason King. His growing-up years were filled with outdoor activities with friends and family; sports and scouting. Don achieved his Eagle Scout in 1964 and attended the Boy Scout Jamboree that summer in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. After graduation from Whitefish High School in 1966, Don spent the summer working for the U.S. Forest Service. He attended Montana State University that fall and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. Over the years Don continued his military service with Montana National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves.

Don married Leila Ann Luce in 1970. They later divorced. Don graduated from Flathead Valley Community College in 1972 with an Associate of Science degree in land surveying. Don held many interesting positions during his working years and he had many self-thought skills and hobbies.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Peggy. Surviving Don are his daughters Louann LaSalle (Logan), Havre and Karen Kenfield (Shane), Chester; granddaughters Joslin Knightstep (Raymond) Great Falls; Alissa Schwerdtfeger (Tyler) and great-granddaughters Stevi Marie and Libby Lou Schwerdtfeger, Havre. Also surviving Don are siblings Scott King and Michelle McDowell; nephews Jeff King, Kelly McDowell and Kevin McDowell and niece Jeannie Stevens.

No local services are planned. Memorials may be made to Stumptown Historical Society or Wounded Warrior Project of Montana.
