High School students wanted for local government

The City of Whitefish has two committees with a vacancy each reserved to a local high school student. (home/publicly/privately/etc.)

The first one is the Pedestrian & Bicycle Path Advisory Committee.

"The purpose and duties of the committee are to provide advice and recommendations to the city park board of commissioners, pedestrian and bicycle path easement negotiators and city staff on matters of pertinence and interest related to the development of pedestrian and bicycle trails pursuant to the Whitefish pedestrian and bicycle path master plan. The committee shall report its advice and recommendations primarily to the park board of commissioners and the easement negotiators. The committee shall act in an advisory capacity only."

This committee meets every first Monday of the month at 8:30 a.m. to around 9:30 a.m. I am the Council representative there.

And the second one is the Park Board.

"Powers & Duties: The Board of Park Commissioners shall have the management and control of all parks belonging to the city.

The Board of Park Commissioners are charged with the following duties: To layout, establish, improve and maintain parkways, drives and walks in the parks of the city; and to determine when and what parks shall be opened to the public.

To plant, cultivate, maintain and improve all trees and other plants required to be planted, cultivated, and maintained in the parks belonging to the city. The complete list of Park Board Powers and Duties can be found in the Whitefish City Code."

The Park Board meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. to around 8:00 p.m. Councilor Frank Sweeney is the City Council representative to this board with me as an alternate.

I am willing to mentor/help the students navigate the waters of their exposure to local government and to allow them to "job shadow" me as I receive the public at my public office at City Hall every Monday from 2:30 p.m. till 5 p.m., as well as during all the public meetings I attend.
