Glacier Hockey PeeWee team snags state title

| March 16, 2022 1:00 AM

The Glacier Hockey Association’s PeeWee (12U) team recently won the PeeWee B State Championship of Montana Amateur Hockey Association.

From the beginning of the season, coaches focused on the building blocks of team play and the players and families worked hard in buying into a total team effort, says GHA Hockey Director Ryan Ulvin. The tournament weekend culminated in a perfect 4-0 record at the state finals in Missoula, March 4-5.

Glacier Avalanche Peewees finished the regular season with a 13-1-2 overall record in league play and entered the state tournament as the No. 2 seed for championship play. Game one saw Glacier post a 4-2 win over Missoula followed by a 5-1 victory against Helena to round out pool play. Glacier topped Salmon, Idaho in the semifinals game in a hard-fought shutout victory by William Cubbage as goalie.

The championship game saw the No. 1 seed, Miles City, face off against No. 2 Glacier. Nick Schmid-Sommer led the team with five goals. Cubbage provided another shutout performance that led to the 8-0 victory.

The season was a great success and a testament to community hockey and sportsmanship. The elements of team play and cohesion meshed well.

Ulvin says the Glacier Hockey Association is proud of this team and showing the community that team play is the way for great success in youth sports, win or learn!
