March 9, 1972

The Montana State Highway Department planned to remove the signal light from the intersection of Spokane Avenue and Second Street. It would be replaced with four-way stop signs and a flashing red light. A signal light was deemed unnecessary at that intersection because it “lacked heavy traffic.”

March 11, 1982

Five Montana Supreme Court judges split over whether or not the city of Whitefish can allow a gun range to be built in Baker Avenue Park. After hearing arguments from both sides, the panel of judges said they need to hear the arguments again later in the month.

March 12, 1992

Rumors circulated that The Big Mountain would close early due to warm temperatures. Lisa Jones, the resort’s communications manager, assured the public the rumors were untrue and the season was not over. The hill had a base of 85 inches and was hoping for an increase in snowfall in late March.

March 7, 2002

Doug Betters created the Whitefish Winter Classic in 1984 and put his name on it because he was playing football his name had credibility. It was known as the Doug Betters Classic for many years. After an arrest for marijuana possession, Betters removed his name from the children’s fundraiser and celebration.

Maggie Voisin and Wyatt Coe competed in the USSA Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The two are members of the Whitefish Mountain Resort Freestyle team and competed in slopeside. Coach T.J. Andrews said, “Maggie and Wyatt have been training hard this season.”
