Vernon (Vern) L. Ingraham

Vernon (Vern) L. Ingraham, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at Logan Hospital in Whitefish, Montana.

Vern was born April 3, 1934, in Ronan, Montana. to Ronald and Evelyn Ingraham.

Vern spent his early childhood in the Olney area and graduated from Whitefish High School in 1952. After graduation he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad. He married Monte Rae Taylor on Sept. 7, 1956 and they were blessed with one son, Jerry Ingraham.

He was drafted by the Army and served in Germany for two years. Upon his return, he joined the Montana National Guard where he would spend his career and retire in November of 1992.

Vern was an active member and held office in The Whitefish Snowmobilers, Jaycees and The Whitefish Lake Boat Club. He was involved in the Whitefish Winter Carnival and honored to be crowned King Ullr XXXII in 1991.

Vern was a very active man who had a great passion for the outdoors and all that Whitefish has to offer. He enjoyed mountain biking, golfing, water skiing, snowmobiling and riding ATV’s with his friends and family. Vern loved to spend time in Glacier National Park hiking with the "Over The Hill Gang” and climbing every peak he could find. A hiking trip to Nepal with good friends was a highlight in his life.

In his spare time, you could find him working in his yard, puttering in his shop or waxing one of his cherished “toys.”

Vern was a soft-spoken, kind-hearted man that will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Donna, Beverly, Walter and Ronald Jr.

He is survived by his son Jerry (Marsha) and two grandchildren Aimee (Michael) and AJ (Ana) along with four great-grandchildren, Avery, Isla, Easton and Mia, along with many nieces and nephews.

A private ceremony is planned at a later date.
