Police Calls: A fire at the chicken coop next door
Feb. 18
11:17 a.m. A man visited the Whitefish Police Department to say he had lost some money. He didn’t know how much nor did he know how it was lost.
12:30 p.m. Someone on Lakeshore Drive called to complain that the mover she hired to bring her belongings to Montana had not arrived. She has been expecting him since October.
Feb. 19
8:12 a.m. A black SUV was blocking a caller’s driveway so she could not leave.
11:51 a.m. A Wisconsin Avenue resident was suspicious of a man trying to open a door while wearing a ski mask.
2:02 p.m. A dog owner followed police back to the station after his dog chased a deer into a vehicle on State Park Road.
3:27 p.m. Two “highly intoxicated” people stumbled southwardly down the center of Highway 93 toward the hospital.
7:35 p.m. A neighbor on Columbia Avenue is concerned about a fire at the chicken coop next door. The flames are high and threatening some low-hanging branches.
Feb. 20
7:02 a.m. A caller knocked on a parked truck that had been running for eight hours straight. There was no answer because the driver was “sleeping it off.”
1:46 p.m. The vehicle hit by the deer that was chased by a dog yesterday appears to have some damage today.
Feb. 21
9:40 a.m. Police checked on a dog kennel on Wisconsin Avenue after hearing from a caller with concerns for the dog’s health.
1:32 p.m. Another driveway was blocked, this time by a rental car.
6:55 p.m. The story of a woman who found a brown and white spotted dog had a happy ending as the dog and its owner were reunited.
Feb. 22
8:27 a.m. Several vehicles were stuck on the viaduct for a few minutes until a truck could be cleared from the area.
9:39 a.m. A friendly report from a passerby let police know that vehicles were having troubles navigating the icy viaduct.
1:14 p.m. Even though she realizes it was a scam, she would still like to talk to police about the phone calls she’s been getting that tell her she needs to sign papers to claim the money she’s won.
4:11 p.m. In an apparent rash of men behaving wildly, a man was heard “screaming at the top of his lungs” on Central Avenue. Moments later, another man was yelling and swearing on the same stretch of road.
6:04 p.m. Meanwhile on Gedde Street, a neighbor would like his neighbor to stop feeding the deer.
