Tee to Green: Prep for Fourth of July tourney
Fourth of July Tournament
This year’s Fourth of July Tournament begins this Thursday through Saturday with players arriving from all around the region to compete in this prestigious event. Tim Olson, Head Professional at Whitefish Lake Golf Club, will have this event organized to perfection as the 220 players tee it up each day. The derby’s will be played after the rounds on Thursday and Friday evenings and these are always a fun spectator outing. If you are in the gallery please remember to keep your carts away from the greens and be mindful of the safety of yourself and others. Also, a reminder to golfers, that both golf courses are closed all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tee times will be open for Sunday play.
Stretch before playing
It is important to stretch your golf muscles before you play to be flexible and to avoid injury. Place your driver behind your shoulders and hold on to both ends. Make slow turns and gradually increase your range of motion. Place one arm across chest and hook your other arm at the elbow to stretch your shoulder muscles. Finally do some bends to reach your toes to loosen your lower back muscles, and then use a bench or cart to stretch your hamstrings. Feeling supple and relaxed will help your game.
Start warm-up with your sand wedge
Starting with the sand wedge, which is the heaviest club in your bag, will help get your muscles ready for the day. Work your way through your bag until you finish with your fairway wood or driver. Remember you are warming up so start slow and focus on tempo not distance.
