Whitefish City Council last week approved a plan that allows the Whitefish Lake Golf Club to renovate the clubhouse at the golf course.

The City of Whitefish and the golf club entered into a lease agreement 11 years ago, which allows the WLGC to operate the golf course and the facilities. Part of the agreement is that the WLGC shall not make any major alterations costing more than $200,000 without written consent of the city.

The planned project involves removal of the bag room storage area, creation of offices for staff and two golf simulators for members and guests. They also intend to relocate the existing restrooms.

The new construction will occupy the same footprint and it will not alter the front appearance of the original log structure of the club house.

“The remodel will also include, in time, some improvements to the kitchen, some efficiencies there,” said Terry Nelson from the Whitefish Golf Club. “The estimate is probably $1.5 million by the time we’re through.”

Council gave consent unanimously and wished Nelson luck with the project.
