June 1, 1972
The Whitefish High School Girls’ track team emerged victorious from the State Track Meet in Billings and were the new State Class A Champions. Nine Whitefish girls participated in the meet to claim the championship title. Debbie Hileman finished first in the 100 yard dash with 11.0 seconds to break her own previous state record of 11.2 seconds.

June 3, 1982
The District 44 Board of Trustees and the Whitefish Education Association tentatively agreed to a contract for the 1982-83 school year. The contract calls for a 7% increase to the base of the salary schedule. The raise will benefit younger teachers more than those teachers who are no longer getting experience increment raises.

June 4, 1992
The Whitefish City Beach Park had a grand re-opening celebration, complete with a dedication ceremony that included a ribbon-cutting, music by several local jazz musicians and a boat parade. The park underwent a $370,000 renovation that resulted in a park which was a far cry from “a disgrace to the community” which is how city councilman Jerry Hanson described it a year ago.

Proposals to increase Whitefish’s resort tax from 2 to 3 percent were being fought by business owners and former Whitefish city officials. Former mayor and business owner Mike Jenson said the resort tax was never created nor supported to build aquatic centers and that it was created to rebuild roads and for tax relief.

Whitefish City Council voted to take bids for the purchase and installation of as many as 48 wayfinding signs and maps to help direct visitors to public landmarks throughout the city. The estimated cost for the entire package was $190,000 but the council could choose to trim the project as desired.
