Twins finish busy week with blowout win
The Glacier Twins played eight games over the last week and went 5-3 overall.
They opened the week beating conference foe Libby 8-3 and then 19-1 in a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 28.
On Wednesday they lost to the Claremont Cardinals in a low-scoring affair, 1-0.
Over the holiday weekend, the Twins played in the Keith Sell Legion baseball tournament in Helena from Friday through Monday. Some rainy weather got in the way on Sunday and the play was reorganized for Monday.
In the Twins' final game of the tournament, they took down the Calgary Bucks in four innings, 13-1.
Mason Peters and Hayden Meehan scored runs in the first inning; Peters and Owen Shilling added two more in the second.
The Bucks scored one run to counter before Glacier pulled away for good after rattling off 9 more runs in the third and fourth innings.
Earlier in the tournament, the twins started off with two wins on Friday. Glacier beat Saskatoon Giants AAA squad 9-4 and the Calgary Cardinals 9-1.
The Twins didn’t fare as well on Saturday after a late score put the Butte Miners up over Glacier 4-2. On Sunday, Glacier lost in a high-scoring race all the way to the end — Great Falls Chargers AA took the game 17-14.
The Twins are now 24-8 on the season.
In the upcoming week, the Twins will host the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament in Whitefish from Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10. The following week on July 17 Glacier will wrap up the regular season and then head to districts on July 21-24.
