FVSEF race team claims second at Whitefish Mountain Resort

Over 160 youth skiers from throughout Montana competed at Whitefish Mountain Resort on Jan. 15-16. The snow conditions were nearly ideal both days under cloudy skies Saturday and mostly sunny on Sunday. At the completion of racing action on Sunday, Big Sky claimed first place in the overall team standings, with the host team from Flathead Valley sitting second and Bridger following in third place.
The events were part of the Northern Division US Ski Association Youth Ski League race series. The Northern Division includes all of Montana and parts of Wyoming and South Dakota. The events were qualifying races for the U14 Western Region Championships to be held in Mammoth Mountain, California in March. Racers ranging in age from 8 to 15 were entered representing clubs in Anaconda, Bozeman, Butte, Dillon, Great Falls, Helena, Missoula, Red Lodge, Rapid City, South Dakota, and the Flathead Valley. En route to capturing second place in the team standings, Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation (FVSEF) skiers garnered 11 podium spots, including four first-place finishes.
The foundation is a nonprofit community-based organization that promotes athletic, academic and personal excellence for Flathead Valley youth through participation on the FVSEF Ski Team.
