Qunell leads Bulldog swim in Kalispell

Two first-place finishes by Whitefish senior Ada Qunell highlighted the Bulldogs performance at the Kalispell High School swim meet on Saturday at The Summit.

Qunell won the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.79 — Hellgate’s Lauren Riley finished in second place 12 seconds later. Qunell also took first in the 500 yard freestyle event. She finished in 5:18.67 with the next swimmer, Aspen McKee out of Polson, coming in at 6:46.35.

She led the Whitefish girls team to a fifth-place finish overall at the meet, and first among Class A teams. Whitefish accumulated 128 points, just behind Missoula Sentinel with 129.5 in fourth place.

Lady Bulldog Nia Hanson also had a good day in the pool, coming in second in the 200 yard freestyle race. Her teammate Sydney Macintyre was just behind her in third place in the 200 free.

The Whitefish girls team placed third in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:27.47, just behind Glacier in first and Missoula Big Sky-Loyola in second.

On the boys side, the Bulldogs also took fifth place overall with 104 points. The Whitefish boys were the top Class A school at the meet as well.

Whitefish junior Jack McDaniel placed in a couple of events including third place in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:23.72 and fifth in the 100 yard freestyle. Whitefish senior Aaron Dicks placed fourth in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:08.15 and also placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke race.

Lincoln Schroeder shined in the 500 free, taking third place in 5:57.11. Noah Schroeder took fourth in the same event.

In the 200 yard medley relay, Whitefish edged Missoula Big Sky-Loyola by a fraction of a second to take fourth place. The team swam the race in 1:58.25 and Missoula Big Sky-Loyola finished in 1:58.52.

Combined boys and girls scores Whitefish was fifth place overall.

The Bulldogs will head to Butte for the Mining City Invitational on Saturday beginning at noon.
