Police arrest suspect following chase near Wisconsin Ave

Whitefish Police assisted in a pursuit of a wanted subject on Tuesday evening around 9 p.m.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Glenn Lakey, 34, was arrested Wednesday morning in a neighborhood off Wisconsin Avenue after police received a call from a residence in the area about a "suspicious" person. Lakey was transported to Flathead County Detention Center with charges pending, according to a release from the Whitefish Police Department.

At approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday, Flathead County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to apprehend Lakey during a traffic stop on Half Moon Road in Columbia Falls. Lakey fled and a pursuit ensued, eventually entering the City of Whitefish on Edgewood Place.

The release states that Whitefish Police assisted in the effort and deployed spike strips. Lakey’s vehicle continued driving for a short distance before becoming disabled on Wisconsin Avenue, the suspect then fled on foot.

Whitefish Police along with Flathead County Sherriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Northwest Regional SWAT team and Two Bear Air conducted a search of the residential area east of Wisconsin Avenue Tuesday night.

Lakey was located and arrested Wednesday morning after a resident in the area reported a "suspicious" person. He was transported to the Flathead County Detention Center with charges pending.

Lakey has previous felony convictions of robbery, theft, burglary and criminal endangerment, according to court records.

In the 2019 criminal endangerment case he was convicted of pulling a gun on people fishing at the Old Steel Bridge in Evergreen and firing a shot.
