Glacier Nordic skiers race in Sun Valley
The Glacier Nordic Ski team competed in Sun Valley, Idaho last weekend.
The event hosted over 400 skiers ranging from Olympians to 10-year-olds. It was part of the 2022 Sun Valley Nordic Invitational.
During Saturday’s chilly skate race, Ruedi Steiner and Nate Ingelfinger each climbed twice around the hilly 5K loop, Steiner placing 23rd and Ingelfinger 38th in the U18 division. Charging one lap of the course, Ethan Amick finished 26th, Maeve Ingelfinger 14th, and Charlotte Lehmann was 27th in the U16 division.
On Sunday athletes raced the classic distance course, and according to Glacier Nordic coach Jennie Bender it “was a doozie.” That’s because the men’s 15K course had an accumulation of 1667 feet of climbing at an altitude of roughly 5950 feet. Steiner was the only senior racer from Glacier Nordic and finished 31st in the U18 division, clocking a time of 50:06. Nate Ingelfinger and Jacob Henson did not start due to injury and illness.
Powering through the 2x 2.5K laps of the U16 woman’s race, Maeve Ingelfinger had an impressive race strat that overtook nine skiers during her second lap to move from 18th position into finishing in ninth place with a time of 19:10.
Lehmann also classic skied through the course, finishing 25th with a time of 21:52. In the U16 men’s race, Amick fought through the tough course, finishing 28th in a time of 18:49.
