Whitefish Mountain Resort experienced the largest one-day snow total since 1996. They reported 17 inches of snowfall overnight Sunday and an additional 22 inches that fell in the previous 24 hours. Avalanche control procedures caused the opening of Chair 1 to be delayed until 10 a.m.

The Whitefish Bulldog boys basketball team beat Ronan to continue their winning streak and boost their record to 16-0. They are ranked No. 1 in the state. Coach Delgado credited their success to their teamwork and said, “There are no individual stars.”

Feb. 18, 1982
Ed Schenck, the founder of The Big Mountain ski resort, died. Along with George Prentice and the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce, Schenck set up Winter Sports, Inc. and sold stock to locals. He worked every job on the mountain including office manager, ski patroller, and snow plow operator. He retired as president of the board in 1980.

Whitefish School Board met to view the first drawings for a Community Center Complex. Plans included a gymnasium, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and handball courts. The 50-meter pool would cost $360,000. During early discussions of the project, the size of the pool was halved and the plan for an ice rink was dropped to save money.
