Bulldog Bodie Smith signs with Carroll College for football
Next fall, Whitefish senior Bodie Smith will be suiting up to play football with a new team as he moves on to the collegiate level.
Smith recently signed a letter of intent to play football at Carroll College. The Whitefish standout wide receiver and safety had been contacted by multiple schools, but chose Carroll because he felt it would be the right fit for him both on the football team and academically.
“It’s a great program, the coaches and the school’s great,” he said. “It’s really just a good fit for me and I’m excited to get down there.”
Smith is a four-year varsity player who moved into a starting receiver role his sophomore year. He has earned postseason honors for multiple years, and last season was selected as an All-state player in the Western A Conference. He was also All-conference first team as a receiver and a free safety. Additionally, Smith was selected to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine game planned for this summer.
Throughout his senior season, Smith racked up 337 yards and five touchdowns; he averaged 37 yards per game. The Bulldogs started the 2021 season 7-0, but then narrowly dropped the final three games. Smith was happy to be a part of a great team in his final year as a Bulldog.
“It started off really good and I’m proud of it,” he said. “It didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but we had a great season. I’m thankful for the coaches and the people that supported me the whole time.”
Smith grew up in Whitefish and his family has deep roots here as his father graduated from Whitefish High. He has been playing football since the sixth grade and he started as a running back. He played that position until he switched to receiver as a sophomore.
He was recruited by Carroll for receiving and as a defensive back, and is looking forward to the opportunity to continue playing football.
“I’m just blessed to even get the opportunity to play football at the next level,” Smith said. “I’m excited to get down there to Helena and play football for Coach Purcell.”
