Bulldog wrestling splits duals on senior day
Whitefish wrestlers took a win over East Helena and dropped a dual to Libby at a Whitefish High School meet on Friday.
The Whitefish Duals meet also hosted Columbia Falls and Thompson Falls. The competition was senior day for Whitefish as the athletes now head into divisionals and the state tournament over the next couple of weeks.
The Bulldogs beat East Helena 27-12 behind a pin from Carter Moran over East Helena’s Colter DeYoung in the 138-pound weight class. Whitefish’s Landree Aurund also won by a 5-2 decision over Cash Corbally.
Against Libby the Bulldogs lost 57-15, mainly due to giving up eight forfeits in the dual meet.
Moran came through again for the Bulldogs though, pinning Logger Elijah Edwards in 1:37. Whitefish senior Jack Akey also won by a major decision, 15-2 over Matthew Nieme.
Libby’s Zekiah Meyers contributed to the Logger win with a pin over Bulldog Rylan McDaniel and Logger Marley Erickson also defeated Aurund at 120 pounds by decision, 7-5.
Whitefish was also scheduled to compete in Eureka on Thursday, but the meet was canceled.
This weekend the Bulldogs will head to Frenchtown to compete in the Western A Divisional Tournament on Saturday. Start time still to be determined.
