The Lady Bulldogs traveled south to Hamilton to compete in the Southwest/Northwest Tip-off Tournament over the weekend.

Whitefish ended up in fourth place among the Northwest teams at the tournament. Polson took first place in the North, followed by Columbia Falls in second and Ronan in third. Browning and Libby took fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Whitefish’s overall tournament record was 6-8, which tied with Columbia Falls and Ronan but based on points the Bulldogs finished in fourth. The tournament was full of two-set matches and teams played about 12 to 14 matches total in two days.

“These girls worked their tails off this weekend,” Whitefish head coach Addy Connelly said. “A few points difference throughout the tournament would have placed them higher.”

The Whitefish team is a young squad with only two players with previous varsity experience. Connelly said it was good for the team to get some time on the court together.

“The girls really competed. They fought hard to come from behind several times to win games and never let themselves get down,” Connelly added. “I appreciated their effort all weekend long and expect them to grow as a team finding success along the way.”

Whitefish hosts its first home match of the season on Thursday against Stillwater with the varsity game beginning at 7 p.m. at the Whitefish High School gym.
