Tee to Green: Loss of an icon, upcoming annual meeting
Successful tournament
A full field of players participated in this past weekend’s member/guest tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club. Tim Olson and his staff did another incredible job organizing and administering the tournament. Stacy Denning and her partner Cheryl Walker won the ladies division by two shots. The popular low score for the two days winning teams was 209 combined scores. Ryan Sandvig and Kelly Mimmaugh posted the lowest net best ball score of 63, while Casey Lamping and Shawn Holland posted the lowest combined Stapleford score at 137. Congrats to all the participants and winners.
Loss of another icon
The Whitefish Golfing community lost a true Icon with the passing of Tim Grattan last weekend. Tim and his wife Darlene are the reason we have a South Course at Whitefish Lake Golf Club as their extraordinary vision saw the need and advantage of having, at that time, 27 holes of golf. We are all saddened to have lost such a key supporter of Whitefish Lake Golf Club and the community.
I thought it was really timely that Brad Grattan has had such a successful run of tournament golf this summer, including the recent Member/Guest. Tim was exceptionally proud of his community and his face lit up when he talked of Brad’s golf.
Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the WLGA will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15 this year. Two new board members will be elected to the board this fall and interested tier one members are asked to email Terry Nelson at terry@golfwhitefish.com stating their desire to run for the board. According to the By-Laws at least one of the newly elected candidates must be a female. To be eligible to be elected to the board the candidates must have been a Tier One member of WLGA for five consecutive years and be 18 years of age or older.
Remodel of Club House
The remodel of the clubhouse bagroom area begins on Oct. 1 and will necessitate that all items stored in the bagroom be removed by mid-September. The remodel will move the restrooms closer to the outside for easier access; add two simulators downstairs plus offices and a conference room to the second level. The Golf Shop will also be re-oriented as well during the remodel.
Short back swing
Many golfers think a long back swing creates more power. Actually, if you go beyond parallel at the top you may lose power, as you have to move the club up at first as you transition, instead of driving down into the shot. You may be surprised to see the length of your swing, so have a friend video on a smart phone to check the length of your swing. This is more of a problem for younger more flexible players than us more advanced, in age, golfers.
