Police Calls: Road rage on Highway 40 leads to bear-spray fight

March 27

8:43 a.m. After the owner was unable to be contacted, the green Toyota that was a traffic hazard because it parked too close to the corner on Kalispell Avenue was towed away.

10:44 a.m. “Cupcake,” a medium-sized, possibly part-poodle dog was lost, then found, and spent some time in the lobby of the Whitefish Police Department before being reunited with her owner.

3:24 p.m. Two parties exchanged information and handled the situation civilly after one driver hit the other’s vehicle in a parking lot on Highway 93.

4:36 p.m. Kids riding in a truck on Central Avenue were shooting people with an airsoft rifle. The report came from a caller who had been hit in the face.

7:18 p.m. The driver of a truck that hit a car and drove away was reportedly slurring his words. Later, he was found swerving at a high rate of speed on Highway 40.

March 28

12:18 a.m. A man who was drunk on Park Knoll Lane was counseled on the consequences of public intoxication.

8:25 a.m. It is unclear whether the collie puppy nipped at a passerby on Seventh Street or merely barked at him but the recipient of the dog’s attention wanted to fight the dog’s owner.

2:29 p.m. A red Toyota Tundra was swerving all over the road on 18th Street.

4:38 p.m. A man in a red sweatshirt raised suspicions when he went through the trunk of a car on 13th Street and walked away.

March 29

6:11 a.m. Participants in a road rage incident on Montana 40 were detained and transported to the hospital after fighting with fists and with bear spray.

9:53 a.m. Someone understandably concerned about bear attractants reported overflowing trash cans between two houses on Colorado Avenue.

10:19 a.m. A customer found a wallet with cash and cards in it and turned it in to an employee on Central Avenue who, in turn, held on to the leather wallet and reported it to police.

2:31 p.m. The contractor at a building site on Merganser Court is detaining two dogs who had been at large.

March 30

12:57 a.m. A dog on Edgewood Place had, reportedly, been barking for twenty minutes.

10:56 a.m. A caller’s Cannondale trail bike was stolen sometime last night.

2:06 p.m. Fifteen shots in a row, that might have come from a rifle, rang out on Sawtooth Drive.
