April 13, 1972
For the first time in its history, Whitefish Schools hosted the District 1 Music Festival. Whitefish was represented by Charles Laird and Barb Benson in the piano competition. Winners of superior ratings went to compete in the State Music Festival in Missoula in May.

April 8, 1982
A switch to dumpsters from the old trash can system was a pressing topic for the City Council meeting that week. Three Whitefish businessmen and a private refuse hauler discussed the situation with the council before it was given to a committee to handle. In the prior year, the city had approved the modification of trucks to handle dumpsters but did not budget for the purchase of the dumpsters.

By mid-April of 1992, Whitefish had sold 29 building permits. Numerous large construction projects were in various stages of completion including the Holiday Plaza, a Whitefish Credit Union remodel, two duplexes in Mountain Harbor and a $230,000 residence on the Whitefish Lake Golf Course.

Bids were received and preparations had begun for the Kay Beller Park east of the river on the south side of Second Street. City of Whitefish Public Works Director John Wilson said the idea to dedicate a park to Kay Beller was a natural one because everyone loved her. Beller was the Whitefish city clerk for 23 years and had retired on April 28, 2000.

Whitefish City Council voted to officially ban medical marijuana dispensaries within the city’s jurisdiction by amending the zoning code. Registered medical marijuana cardholders were still allowed to possess and grow medical marijuana for their own use.
