More improvements at golf course

South Course New Putting Green taking shape

The crew is making excellent progress on the new South Course putting green and the expansive new surface will be ready for use in the spring of 2022. This week players will begin to use the new cart path adjacent to the driving range net when they play on the South Course. We expect to have the greens mix installed by the end of the coming week and shaping of the new putting surface completed shortly thereafter. Potentially we could be laying the new Bentgrass sod the following week. This is another in a continuing series of course improvements accomplished by our staff in the past few years.

Annual Meeting

The annual business meeting of the Whitefish Lake Golf Association will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Plans for a clubhouse remodel will be presented as well as a snapshot of the current finances for the year. Rounds played for the 2021 season are close to projected numbers with members playing about 70% of all the golf this year.

Absentee Ballots for Board Members

Absentee ballots will be available in the Golf Shop starting on Oct. 2 for those who are not planning to attend the regular Annual Meeting on the Oct. 16. There are four men vying for two open positions on the board at this time. Rick Billuni, Don Hanson, Mike Rossi and Kevin Scott have all tossed their hats in the ring and will be on the ballots. A short bio of each of the candidates will be available at the time the absentee ballots are ready for voting.

Have a “go to” Shot

Every golfer should have one shot they can pretty much count on to get them in the fairway. If you’re having a bad day and come to a tight driving hole, use your go to shot to get you in play. For lots of players a low cut shot can be very predictable. Tee the ball lower and swing slightly from the outside in to create a low flight that starts down the left side and cuts back toward the center. Practice this shot on the range and then use it when you need it to keep you in play. Eight South is a good place to use this shot, but if you start at the water you better believe in the expected result.
