Whitefish volleyball takes down Stillwater, battles in Butte tournament
m got another win for the season when they defeated Stillwater Christian in three sets on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Whitefish won over Stillwater 25-22, 25- 20, 25-21.
“Whitefish took care of business [Tuesday] despite being down a few players,” Whitefish coach Addy Connelly said. “They played very steady in system balls; the girls were quick to side out and gain momentum with tough serving from Bailey Smith.”
In the match Bulldog sophomore Bailey Smith stepped up with nine aces and eight digs.
Freshman Kaydence Blackwell led Whitefish with nine assists and sophomore Brooke Zetooney had a team-high seven kills. Zetooney also had two aces and she and Jadi Walburn both had two blocks for the team.
“Our middles Brooke Zetooney and Jadi Walburn were aggressive at the net both hitting and blocking,” Connelly said. “Kaydence Blackwell led our team offensively with nine set assists.”
Whitefish also participated in a tournament hosted by Butte Central over the weekend.
The tournament started off with single-set matches played to 30 points on Friday. Whitefish’s record was 2-6 in the tournament throughout those single-set matches.
On Saturday the Bulldogs started off the day defeating Lockwood 2-1, the second day matches were best out of three sets. Whitefish then lost to Libby before taking down Hamilton and then Lockwood again.
“The girls went on to play Hamilton and dominated with crisp play,” Connelly recalled. “For the third match in a row, we again saw Lockwood; we started tough in the first game, let down in the second and came back in the third for a strong win.”
“The girls really battled both physically and mentally, and overcame a lot of adversity this weekend,” she added. “I was very proud of their perseverance.”
Whitefish was set to play Ronan Tuesday after press time, then will travel to Polson on Thursday to face the Lady Pirates.
