The Whitefish High School speech and debate team competed in a two-day tournament in Missoula on Friday and Saturday.

The team’s best result again came from the pair of Addie Blackaby and Zoe Tremper who placed second in the public forum debate.

“Whitefish had an excellent showing in debate this tournament, with a season-high second place finish for our public forum debate team of juniors Addie Blackaby and Zoe Tremper,” Whitefish head coach Sara Mueller said.

Whitefish student Fiona Shanahan placed seventh in the novice Lincoln-Douglas debate and in the varsity policy debate the team of Gavin Carmichael and Alex Losee took seventh as well.

Mueller was pleased with the effort from her team in the tournament and looks forward to seeing more improvement from the younger debaters as the season progresses.

“We enjoyed competing alongside most schools from this half of the state,” she said. “We were proud to hold our own and get a few rookies out there competing for the first time.”

Whitefish speech and debate will head to Columbia Falls to compete on Saturday.
