Fundraiser contest asks participants to construct gingerbread houses
A contest aimed at supporting affordable housing in Whitefish is asking participants to craft their own home out of gingerbread.
CENTURY 21 Deaton and Company Real Estate together with the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce is hosting The Great Whitefish Gingerbread Contest fundraiser. Entries are set to be on display at the chamber’s Christmas Stroll on Dec. 10 with winners announced that night also.
The public and area businesses are being invited to enter the contest by submitting gingerbread houses for voting. The deadline for entry is Nov. 30.
Gingerbread houses must be constructed on a sturdy base measuring no bigger than 15 inches by 15 inches, and be able to be delivered to the business where they will be on display.
All visible elements of the house should be edible, but environments can be inedible, the rules note. Graham cracker houses are permitted in the family/individual division.
Designs can be any structure including houses, businesses, public buildings, hotels or churches. Entries must be constructed to be viewed from all angles.
During the week prior to the Christmas Stroll on Dec. 4-9, entries will be on display at area businesses to allow for public voting.
There are two divisions in the contest — business and family/individual. Business entries are $35 and family/individual entries are $20.
CENTURY 21 Deaton and Company Real Estate are matching all entry fees dollar‐for‐dollar, with the donation of all money raised going to the Whitefish Housing Authority.
The final display of entries will be in the Chamber of Commerce/CENTURY 21 tent on Central Avenue on the evening of the Christmas Stroll on Dec. 10. During the stroll, children age 12 and under are invited to decorate a gingerbread man to take home.
