WTC presents charming comedy about modern love

| November 3, 2021 1:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. presents its second Black Curtain theatre production of the 2021-2022 season with “The Siegel” by Michael Mitnick at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

This “incredibly funny and audaciously charming play” has performances on Nov. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. Masks are highly recommended and greatly appreciated when attending the show.

Ethan Siegel is in love with Alice. And tonight he’s going to ask her parents for permission to marry her. There are just a few problems — Ethan and Alice broke up two years ago, she’s in a serious relationship with someone else, and Alice has completely moved on with her life. But Ethan is undaunted in his pursuit, aiming to win over Alice in a myriad of ways to convince her that she is “the one.” Emulating Chekhov’s themes of ideal love and destiny, “The Siegel” is a fresh, irresistible comedy about modern love and the need to go back in order to move forward.

“Our Black Curtain theatre productions are about exploration for both actors and audience,” says Director Gail Cleveland. “Actors have scripts in hand and rehearsal time is short, but it is so rewarding to dive into human plays like ‘The Siegel.’”

“The play looks at who we end up sharing our life with,” she adds. “Is there one special person we should be with? Are there 50 that would do? How do we choose? What is the right choice? Using spirited and wacky dialogue, the characters raise these questions, hoping for a definitive answer.”

Cast members include Matt Strool as Ethan, Amy Galt as Alice, Charlie Covey as Nelson, Todd Clear as Ron, Tery Solomon as Deborah, and Brooklynn Pitts as Jordan. Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will be minimal staging, set and props and actors will be reading from a script.
