Incentive grows with less than week remaining in Whitefish Trail challenge
Trail users have logged 10,281 miles for the Hit the Trail Challenge, raising $10,281 for the Whitefish Trail so far.
The challenge runs through the month of May and aims to encourage an increase in health and wellness, while also raising funds through sponsors that are matching every mile logged during the month with $1 donated to Whitefish Legacy Partners.
The goal of the challenge is to raise $25,000 pledged by sponsors of the challenge by logging 25,000 miles on the trail.
With less than a week remaining, North Valley Hospital has also announced an extra $1,000 in possible matching funds to encourage the community to get healthy on the local trails.
There are 575 individuals participating, including 16 workplace teams and 20 homerooms at Whitefish Middle School.
“With many participants waiting to submit their WT miles for the entire month, the end of the challenge is pretty exciting as literally thousands of miles get logged in the last hours of May,” said Alan Myers-Davis, WLP director of development. “Hit the Trail Challenge is a fun way to encourage healthy living on the Whitefish Trail, and it further deepens our community’s connection to our local lands. We will need everyone’s help to reach our community’s 25,000 mile goal.”
Workplace teams are battling out for a top place finish to receive the coveted “Whitefish Trail Tortoise Trophy.” The top four workplace teams headed into the final week are: in first place is Glacier Nordic Club, followed closely by The Wave, Project Whitefish Kids and North Valley Hospital. Workplace teams are ranked by a per employee average with a small adjustment made for biking miles.
Whitefish Middle School students have logged 1,230 miles total with the sixth grade currently leading with 482 miles and the fifth grade in second place with 415 miles. Homerooms are also competing to log miles with these homerooms leading each grade level: for fifth grade is Mr. Meehan with 256 miles, sixth grade is Mrs. Douglas with 216 miles, seventh grade is Mrs. Pepe with 43 miles, and eighth grade is Ms. Chaisson with 101 miles.
