Jacqueline (Jacki) Nasset Chestnut

| May 5, 2021 1:00 AM

Jacqueline (Jacki) Nasset Chestnut, born Sept. 13, 1946, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died surrounded by family on April 26, 2021, in Hennepin County, Minnesota.

Jacki grew up in Shelby, Montana, and spent her last 25 years in Wayzata, Minnesota. She worked as Registrar of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) for more than 15 years.

Anyone who met Jacki would remark that she was a fighter and a tough, no-nonsense kind of lady. She survived stage four ovarian cancer in the late 1980s, beating a terminal diagnosis to live some 35 plus years in remission. Being a cancer survivor was a source of great pride for Jacki.

If you knew her well, you knew her heart was always in Montana, even though she grew to call Minnesota home. Jacki loved her years working in higher education and summers spent gardening. Known for her humor and one-liners, she seemed to be friends with everyone.

She loved her child, Shelby, more than anything in the whole world and told anyone she could about Shelby’s success. J

acki did not want a memorial service and requested that her ashes be taken on a road trip to all her favorite places in Montana. If you would like to join any of those festivities, please contact the family. A good way to honor Jacki would be to live life to the absolute fullest, blast some Tina Turner, buy fresh flowers, watch Thelma and Louise, go on a road trip, and remember that getting old isn’t for sissies.

Jacki is preceded in death by her parents Pearl and Kenneth Nasset, stepmother Flora Nasset, baby brother Kent Nasset, and best friend and sister-in-law Andrea Nasset.

She is survived by her only child Shelby Pearl Chestnut, brother Peter Nasset, sister Rebecca Terhune, nephews Aaron and Roland Nasset, nieces Josie Terhune and Sara Nasset, and stepson Scott Chestnut.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the MCAD Andrea Thoe Nasset Scholarship Fund, 2501 Stevens Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55404 or to Antioch College in honor of Shelby Chestnut, 1 Morgan Pl, Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387.
