Whitefish Mountain Resort donated more than $8,000 to North Valley Food Bank through a recent fundraiser Lift Up Against Hunger.

During a day last month, guests at the resort were given the opportunity to add a donation to their purchase with the resort matching up to $5,000 in donations. Guests contributions totaled $3,149 and though the goal of $5,000 wasn’t met the resort donated the full amount bringing the total up to $8,149.

Sophie Albert, Executive Director of North Valley Food Bank, said the donation will help provide food for around 100 to 150 families.

“When coronavirus hit, we saw almost double the number of families come through the food bank weekly,” she said. “So, currently we serve around 400 to 450 families a week.”

Feeding America Estimates that Montana’s food insecurity will increase by 29% as a direct result of the pandemic, with an additional 32,000 Montanans at risk of food insecurity.

“Whitefish Mountain Resort has been a long-time, regular contributor to the North Valley Food Bank serving the needs of the greater Whitefish area,” said Dan Graves, CEO of Whitefish Mountain Resort. “Being able to partner with so many of our guests in making this donation was an absolute pleasure.”
