WTC presents funny satire 'Radiant Vermin'

| March 10, 2021 1:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. presents the clever, funny, and provocative cautionary fable “Radiant Vermin” on March 17 and 18.

There will be two ways to view this show on each night, including limited, socially-distant seating at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish and online in a pre-recorded version of the play. Online viewing can occur anytime on March 17 and 18.

How far would you go to get your dream home? Jill is expecting her first baby and she and her husband Ollie are desperate to find a home of their own for their new family. When a mysterious stranger offers the young couple an ideal house, it prompts the question: at a time of crisis in the housing market, how far would you compromise your principles to secure a home for you and your family? Be prepared to be appalled at yourself for laughing aloud at the horrors revealed in “Radiant Vermin,” a wickedly funny, pitch-black satire about consumerism, gentrification, and inequality.

“This play is as dark as a dark comedy can get,” says Director Kim Krueger. “It’s like a Stephen King book where everything looks normal, until it opens up and you see the true nature of these characters you are rooting for. Characters who are decent people, but stifle their moral code as they are driven to desperation.”

“It’s a witty, biting satire on many levels, and with the housing market what it is here in the valley, let’s just say there are some relevant themes,” adds Krueger.

Cast members include Matt Strool as Ollie, Caitlyn Goeman as Jill, and Nicki Corne as Miss Dee and Kay. Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will be minimal staging, no set or props, and actors may reference their scripts in both the live and film versions. Viewers that attend the live performance are also reminded that masks are required at all times while inside the O’Shaughnessy Center, including during the performance.
