A proposed ordinance looked to ban the use of hand-held cell phones while driving in Whitefish. City Council approved the ordinance 4-2 on its first reading.

The mountains didn’t get enough snow during the winter, but Mother Nature decided to make up for it with a mid-June snow storm. Big Mountain saw snow for much of the day and the Going-to-the-Sun Road closed after several inches of spring powder fell on Logan Pass in Glacier National Park.

Tourists who were tired of vacation spots such as Vail and Vegas were finding that the last, best place to “get away from it all” was the Flathead Valley. The number of inquiries from tourists was growing with the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce recording 40% more inquiries for the year than the year before.

Hopes that the use of a mediator would settle the contract negotiations between the Whitefish School District and its teachers were dashed after a six and a half hour meeting. Both parties said they were still negotiating and had not yet reached an impasse.

After 44 years in education, Lloyd Muldown was retiring as Superintendent of Schools in Whitefish. He spent 43 years of his career in Whitefish. He taught high school math, science, physical education and coached teams in every sport. He spent 11 years as superintendent.
