Challenge raises more than $27,000 for Whitefish Trail

Hikers, bikers, runners and walkers logged 27,345 miles during May raising $27,345 for the Hit the Trail Challenge for the Whitefish Trail.

"We are so excited to see the community connecting to our local lands this spring,” said Alan Myers-Davis, WLP Director of Development. “27,345 miles logged in May is an amazing accomplishment that shows how access to local trails increases our community's health, wellness, and quality of life."

For every mile logged on the Whitefish Trail during the month of May, $1 was donated by sponsors of the fundraiser in support of the Whitefish Trail and surrounding protected lands through Whitefish Legacy Partners.

Participation is either as an individual or through workplace and community groups.

The WAVE lead the workplace teams with 55.9 points followed by Glacier Nordic Club with 52.6 points, North Valley Hospital with 48.2 points and Project Whitefish Kids with 45.5 points.

In the Whitefish Middle School challenge, the sixth-grade class came in first with 876 miles, followed by fifth grade with 498 miles, seventh grade with 243 miles and eighth grade with 188 miles.

Top runners in the male category were Tristan Scott with 216 miles, Nick Cornell with 92 and Bo Matson with 85. Top males in the biking category were Geoff Gibb at 640 miles, Steve Qunell at 199 and Eric Greenberg at 196. Top males in the hiking category were Noel Huettich at 167 miles, Chris Crumal at 134 and Jim McIntyre at 94.

Top female runners were Audra Tasa at 153, Phebe Bright at 99 and Jessica Craig at 66. Top females in the biking category were Bess Matson at 253 miles, Lacy Eccles at 134 and Katie French at 131. Top females in the hiking category were Wendy Dolph at 128 miles, Darcy Shulz at 102 miles and Whitney Geiger at 87.
