Tips for older golfers, upcoming tournaments
Keep Turning
Most of us older players and higher handicaps all have a similar problem with our swing, and it is that we do not turn back and through the shot. Often, we will release our hands early and simply swing with just our arms. Sometimes it will create what is called a “chicken wing,” where the left arm breaks down after impact. Practice making a good turn on every shot. Think about bringing your left shoulder under your chin on the back swing and your right shoulder under on the through swing. Make a firm turn both ways.
Spring Pro-Am June 7
The Whitefish Lake Golf Course annual spring Pro-Am is this coming Monday, June 7. The event will be held on the North Course so the South will be open for member play. The Pro-Am series usually consists of one golf professional and three amateurs on a team and is scored using one gross and one net score by the four players.
Bulldog Open July 25
This year, once again, the Bulldog Open will be played in July and not the former Father’s Day as in the past. More information will be available soon with registration to start in a couple of weeks, so get your four-person team organized and be ready to participate in this fun-filled fundraiser for Junior Golf and the Whitefish High School teams. The event will be a shotgun with the step aside format being used, where a player is not allowed to follow their own shot by hitting the next shot. Mark your calendar and save the date to play in the 2021 Bulldog Open.
Trail fees for carts
Each year, carts driven on the course, whether stored on site or not, pay a trail fee. That fee is used to support the continual renovations and maintenance of our over 12 miles of cart paths on the two courses. Please pick up a sticker for your cart from the starter to show that your trail fees have been paid.
