Big Mountain Resort was turning down a request to host the Chevy Truck U.S. Alpine Championships. After a difficult winter due to marginal snow conditions, Big Mountain opted to take a more conservative approach to hosting major events for the coming winter.

Plans for the reconstruction of the viaduct seemed to finally be progressing, albeit slowly. Officials with the Montana Department of Highways and state water quality bureau had received copies of Burlington Northern’s final report on the extent of contamination in the viaduct area.

Big Mountain was taking steps to help attain the goal of doubling its skiers within the next 10 years as construction began on a new lift — a triple chair that would service the top half of the mountain. The new “High Five” would take skiers from the top of the Heep Steep run at about the 5,900-foot level to the top of the mountain, just beyond the unloading area of the Big One chairlift.

Between $3,000 and $4,000 in value was placed on the damage to the golf greens and other equipment at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club. Eight of the nine putting greens on the club’s front nine were damaged and one green on the back nine was also damaged likely by using a rake from one of the sand traps to hook under the sod and tear it up.
