President Barack Obama and his family canceled their summer vacation to Whitefish. The Whitefish Police Department had been planning for the visit, but the trip was called off after the President was scheduled to participate in a discussion about the debt ceiling.

If everything continued to go according to plan, phase one of a development worth up to $12 million on the corner of Central Avenue and Railway Street was set to be in place by late fall of 2002. The project consisted of 33 residential condos and 18,000 square feet of retail space to house businesses.

While the odds of making one are astronomical, a rash of golfer’s landing the premier shot — a hole-in-one — had taken place at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club. There had been 10 holes-in-one already for the season.

City Beach was in need of some care. Traffic congestion, the dust caused by it, and parking seemed to head the list of problems. City officials said they were working on efforts to make improvements.

Despite hail, high water and a thermometer stuck on the lower half of the scale, the Whitefish Boat Club was steaming ahead with plans for the annual Aluminum Cup Regatta set for Whitefish Lake. In addition to races, the event included the coronation of the Aluminum Cup Queen and a torchlight boat parade around Whitefish Lake.
