The City of Whitefish has adopted a new logo for official city business.

The change was prompted by an update by the city Parks and Recreation Department and Park Board of the parks sign plan. That update included a modernization of the city’s logo.

The old logo shows a non-descript mountain and trees with a river running through the center. The new logo is based upon Big Mountain and actual trees found in a city park.

City Manager Dana Smith said with the expedition of some minor color changes, the city logo hadn’t been updated in over a decade.

“We wanted to have consistency with the logos used in the departments, and Council and the department directors really liked the new logo,” Smith said. “We’re going to be phasing the new logo in over time to keep costs low.”

Smith said electronic use of the logo is expected immediately, but physical logos will be replaced as necessary or when funding becomes available for items such as letterhead, business cards, signs and uniforms.

The new logo includes a design reflective of the community’s actual viewshed, Smith notes. It also includes an updated font for the wording City of Whitefish that matches what was already being used on the city’s website.

“The cool thing about the new logo is that it includes the ski runs on Big Mountain and trees from the Bakke Nature Reserve,” Smith said. “It’s unique to Whitefish.”

The new logo was designed by Cassie Lasson with FrontDesk, Inc.
