Work underway on new putting green

New South Course Putting Green

Plans are well underway to finally complete the new practice putting green for the South Course this fall. The new green will be roughly twice as big as the current putting surface with many usable hole locations to improve your putting skills. As part of the construction, the cart path will be relocated adjacent to the driving range net to allow all the area including the black tee to be incorporated into the new putting surface. This project will begin in September and will not interfere with play on the South Course during construction. If all goes as planned the new putting green will be available to use early next season. The construction plans also include a gazebo for use by the starters on the South Course and a place to store score cards and pencils.

Cart Path Work Continues

The crew at Whitefish Lake Golf Club continues to make improvements to our cart paths as we renovate and widen the paths. You will note that on the South Course the path has been widened from the tee to the pond on No. 6 and the path from 12 green to 13 tee is also wider and a new rock wall above the path has been built. A turnaround area behind the 17th black and blue tee has also been readied for paving this fall. Our nearly 12 miles of cart paths require continual maintenance so these improvements are part of that process.

Playing Trends

This current season the total number of rounds is ahead of last year and 2019 as our memberships have grown. Members account for over 70 percent of the rounds played while green fees, guest rounds, are down slightly from the past two years.

Break out of a Putting Slump

We all hit periods of time when our putting effectiveness declines and we feel like we can’t seem to make anything. If this is you try a different stance by opening or closing your position at address and checking the alignment. Change your grip, such as left-hand low or the claw. Maybe even bring that old putter out of the garage for a re-appearance. Pay attention to where you are missing the putts, are they all left or right, long or short and then focus on getting your stoke back online. When you change, your mind will automatically sense the difference, and your concentration level should increase. Another great way to get back on track is to schedule a putting lesson with your favorite Golf Professional.
