She worked on a top-secret missile project while living in the Marshall Islands with her second husband and family. Norma retired from the Washington State DOR in Spokane in 1999 at age 65 with a combined almost 40 years of service with the railroad and state.

Norma loved family and enjoyed taking care of her home and garden. She loved animals, and always had pets. She enjoyed baking and started baking weeks ahead for Christmas. She loved clothes and shoes, and she shopped year round for Christmas and birthdays. Norma loved the Northwest's great outdoors and she swam, boated, fished and camped.
