WTC presents mysterious drama April 23-24

The Whitefish Theatre Co. presents the mysterious drama “Our Mother’s Brief Affair” on April 23 and 24.

There will be two ways to view this show on each night, including limited, socially-distant seating at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish and online in a pre-recorded version of the play. Online viewing can occur anytime on April 23 and 24.

On the verge of death for the umpteenth time, Anna makes a shocking confession to her grown children: an affair from her past that just might have resonance beyond the family. But how much of what she says is true? While her children try to separate fact from fiction, Anna fights for a legacy she can be proud of. With razor-sharp wit and extraordinary insight, “Our Mother’s Brief Affair” considers the sweeping, surprising impact of indiscretions both large and small. Says The New York Times, “Our Mother’s Brief Affair” is a “sort of everyday detective story”, illuminating “how little we know about the lives that impinge upon and shape our own.”

“After Anna tells her obituary writer son, Seth, a profound secret, a family crisis ensues when Anna’s story conflicts with the image of a mom that Seth had been holding onto,” says Director Nick Rapp. “This play is so intriguing because it highlights a certain messy zone between personal convictions and loving another, showcasing how it’s often our own prejudices, righteous or otherwise, that can stand in the way of connection, even with those we’re supposed to love the most.”

Cast members include Mona Charles as Anna, Sarah Bell as Abby, Matt Strool as Seth, and Tony Hernandez as Lover/Abe.

“Mona and Tony are spellbinding as secret lovers,” Rapp says. “And it’s a thrill to watch Matt and Sarah as twins aghast in the face of shocking revelations.”

Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will be minimal staging, no set or props, and actors may reference their scripts in both the live and film versions. Viewers that attend the live performance are also reminded that masks are required at all times while inside the O’Shaughnessy Center, including during the performance.
