WTC holds auditions for Black Curtain production

| April 14, 2021 1:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for its final Black Curtain theatre production of the 2020-2021 season.

Auditions for “Things Being What They Are” will be held on Sunday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Please arrive early to fill out an audition application, fill out a waiver form, and review the script. Please enter at the north side of the building near WTC’s parking lot and conference room. Masks are required when you enter the building but you will be able to remove them during your audition. Please do not attend auditions if you are feeling sick.

The minute Bill moves into his new condo, anxiously waiting for his unfaithful wife and his furniture, his nosy neighbor Jack appears at the door - looking for some beer and sympathy. At first Jack appears to be a nightmare neighbor — intrusive, needy, boorish — but gradually Bill's perception of his new friend deepens. While Bill learns how Jack has managed to lose his wife's trust and his children's love, he also discovers that Jack is wrestling with circumstances that would challenge the best of us. In this wistful and off-beat comedy, “Things Being What They Are” follows an unlikely bond between two regular guys as they debate the meaning of love, loss, masculinity, and the needs that bring people together and drive them apart.

The cast is composed of two men, ages 20s to 50s. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided. If you would like to familiarize yourself with the script, it is available at valley public libraries.

Gil Jordan is the director of this production. As a Black Curtain show, the actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. There will be approximately nine to 10 rehearsals. There are two performances over one weekend on May 8 and 9.
