Bulldogs rout Browning
The Whitefish football team defeated Browning in high-scoring fashion on Thursday at the Dawg Pound.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 21-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they beat the Browning Indians 58-6. This was the highest scoring game Whitefish has played in this season and also the only game with zero Bulldog turnovers.
“On a short, smoke-filled week the boys made the most of the opportunity to play,” Whitefish head coach Chad Ross said. “We won following a great performance in all three phases of the game — offense, defense and special teams.”
Bulldog Bodie Smith blocked a punt and scooped the ball up to score in an outstanding special teams play in the first quarter, giving Whitefish an early 14-0 lead. Whitefish ended up piling on 31 more points, taking a hefty 45-6 advantage into halftime.
The team’s defensive leader in the game was Jack Akey who brought down an interception, four unassisted tackles and a knock down, according to Ross.
Bulldog quarterback Fynn Ridgeway completed 64.3% of his passes for 150 yards, recorded four touchdowns and tacked on 35 additional yards on the ground.
The Bulldogs also rushed for 230 yards, completing the game with 380 total yards to Browning’s mere 110 total yards.
Whitefish senior running back Jack Alton shined for the Bulldogs with 15 carries for 113 rushing yards. Junior wide receiver Jaxsen Schlauch led his team in receiving, bringing in 66 yards in four catches as well as one interception.
Whitefish sits in the middle of the pack in the Western A standings with an overall record of 2-2. The team travels to Ronan on Friday to take on the Chiefs who are 1-3 and have lost their last three games.
