Depending on weather, North Course should stay open through October
WLGC Open for Now
The golf course will keep the North Course open until the end of October, providing the weather cooperates and the snow on the ground disappears. With the South Course already closed for the season the North will allow our players to continue with a few more rounds of fall golf. The board and staff appreciate our members for supporting us during a very different season of golf that saw our membership numbers increase slightly. Golf across the country saw a significant increase in the number of rounds played with golf proving to be a safe activity during the pandemic.
Planning for 2021 Season
The board of directors and staff at WLGC is starting the process of planning for 2021 with the hopes that by then we will be back to a more normal operation. Should everything progress and COVID subside we will schedule the construction of a new practice putting green for the South Course. The green will be nearly twice the size of the current putting surface with the cart path moved adjacent to the driving range net therefore creating room to expand the green to the west. The cart path work that we started this fall will get completed in early spring if weather prevents finishing this year.
Restaurant to Reopen Wednesday
The Whitefish Lake Restaurant will reopen for the formal dining room and lounge starting this Wednesday, Oct. 21. Reservations, as always, are strongly recommended for the formal dining room at the restaurant. Our staff is anxious to get back to serving their customers and is committed to your dining pleasure and safety. Please call 862-5285 to make your reservations for dining. Chris’ now famous Chicken fried steak returns to the menu on Wednesday evening on the lounge menu.
Fall Tip for Golf
Playing in the fall as the temperature drops requires some adjustments in our approach to the game. First of all, the ball will fly a shorter distance in the cooler air and second, the extra clothing prevents a good body turn. Take more clubs and focus on your finish being toward the hole with a restricted turn. As the season winds down the greens will not be cut quite as short creating a slower putting surface so you may have to make a bigger stroke. Enjoy the fall golf, and as my father used to say, “I shoot in the 70s and if it gets any colder I don’t play.”
