The Whitefish City Council tabled contentious conversations regarding bringing all businesses along U.S. 93 into compliance with zoning. Restrictive zoning on the highway was originally enacted in 1982 to limit businesses along the strip to those that needed abundant space. The Council unanimously agreed to revisit the issue the following January.

A museum in the Railroad Depot was being renamed. The Stumptown Historical Society Museum would now be called the Whitefish Museum. The idea was to make the facility better known to the public and to visitors.

The restoration project of the Great Northern locomotive was just finished after 18 months of restoring the iconic train car. The locomotive was used by The Great Northern Railway from 1942 until it was sold to the Anaconda Aluminum Company in 1965.

Flathead Valley Community College Foundation had just begun offering significant tax advantages to the giver for donations given to the organization. The foundation was formed to develop an endowment fund for which the interest generated would pay for building programs, scholarships, research projects and more.

As Big Mountain was readying to open for the ski season, a 20-man packing crew was picking up and laying down skis on a slope that was not accessible to the big packing machines. It was the seventh time in 11 years that The Big Mountain opened on Thanksgiving morning with excellent snow conditions.
