The new skybridge connecting the Lodge at Whitefish Lake to the Viking Creek Lodge was the topic of concerned Whitefish citizens calling City Council. The concerns ranged from the bridge’s design to whether it would be open to the public, which was never intended.

May 11, 2000

The Olney-Bissell School District was facing another obstacle, after voters in the district rejected an operating levy request for the second time in three years. The levy request of $28,000 was beaten by a 53-42 vote, and would have gone to pay for textbooks, technology purchases and other supplies.

30 years ago

May 10, 1990

A 16-year-old minor led Whitefish officers on a wild, high speed chase through the night. The driver fled from police at speeds up to 100 miles per hour, leaving cars in the ditches as they swerved to avoid him. The chase began with a simple attempt at traffic stop.

40 years ago

May 15, 1980

A lengthy Whitefish School Board meeting took place after the Concerned Citizen’s Committee confronted the district on a “morale problem” in the schools. The committee issued an unsigned letter stating its concerns for the school, which included excessive administrative control, high teacher turnover and bad relations between the board and the public.

50 years ago

May 14, 1970

A new micro-wave telephone system between Whitefish and Kalispell meant clearer phone calls for local residents. The new $125,000 system was added to improve long distance and local call quality, adding to the now 28 long distance circuits routing between Whitefish and its sister to the south.
