Looking Back for March 11

The Whitefish Winter Classic was celebrating its 25th anniversary of raising money for Flathead Valley organizations. The event brought together celebrities like NFL players to play basketball games, sign autographs and play poker to help raise money to help with non-covered medical costs for Valley children.

Three women who streaked through downtown Whitefish on New Year’s Day were fighting to get their subsequent charges reduced to a disturbing the peace charge. The original charge was indecent exposure, which was a misdemeanor and a sex offense.

The Whitefish Lady Bulldogs were headed for the state tournament after finishing third in the Western A Divisionals. The team would go on to win bronze at state.

A pair of Canadian teenagers were found and rescued in the Trumbull Creek drainage after getting lost while skiing at Big Mountain Ski Resort. The skiers, it was determined, had dipped past the resort boundaries in search of powder, but the two were able to make a fire and wait out the night until rescuers found them.

The Bulldogs boys basketball team was headed to the state tournament with grand plans. The team, seeded number one in Class A, was set to battle Sidney in the first round of the tournament, held in Billings.
