Stillwater Gallery features work of ceramic artist

| June 30, 2020 1:34 PM

Whitefish Pottery and Stillwater Gallery presents Diverged, an exhibition of work from ceramic artist Stephanie Seguin.

Seguin is an artist and educator living in Northwest Montana. She received her master of fine arts from The Pennsylvania State University, and bachelor of fine arts from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Seguin teaches both in person and online drawing, painting, and clay classes for Stumptown Art Studio, art history classes for Flathead Valley Community College and Western New Mexico University, and maintains an active studio practice from her home studio.

Diverged is a collection of terra cotta “vessels” Seguin created during an artist residency in Carbondale Colorado at the Carbondale Clay Center from 2017 through 2019.

“Using ‘the vessel’ as a touchstone, Diverged encourages viewers to consider nuance over novelty,” she said. “By drawing apart small variations in form and surface, the collection of vessels slowly shifts between the similar and the distinct. Each piece is individually designed to have soft and quiet qualities through both color and form and are displayed as a collection of subtleties.”

An opening reception for the exhibit is Thursday July 2, 6 to 9 p.m. This reception will be limiting the number of guests in the gallery at any given time, masks are required, and light refreshments will be served. The show will run through the month of July.
