The Whitefish High School’s design committee was starting to bring a shape to a future building. The committee was made up of about 30 people, ranging from residents, Trustees, students, administrators and more. The district had previously failed to pass two bond issues within the last 10 years, all the while the needs at the current school had continued to grow.

July 20, 2000
The city was focusing its efforts on reducing sand in Whitefish Lake and the Whitefish River. The city was endorsing a $60,000 grant request to the state Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to remove sand, which was being dumped on the city’s beaches to the tune of 20 to 40 dump-trucks-worth every year.

The Whitefish School District was preparing to ask voters to fund a Muldown expansion project, potentially priced at $3.5 million. The expansion would revise the original open-classroom design, as well as add a gym, expanded kitchen facilities and special education rooms.

July 24, 1980
After a down June, tourism traffic in Whitefish seemed to be back on track through July. Hotels and restaurants were reporting good numbers after a rainy, gloomy few weeks that saw slow visitation. In Glacier, 575,000 people had thus far visited the park.

The most recent Whitefish School Board meeting focused on the use of a history textbook and its interpretations of the Second Amendment. The book, MaGrudder’s American Government, was being used in about 60% of schools nationwide, and no action was taken by the board.
