The Bulldogs had some solid individual performances despite the overall team scores in a pair of duals last week.

Whitefish lost duals to Frenchtown and Belgrade by scores of 43-18 and 50-15 at the triangular.

Against Belgrade, Camren Ross (160) won by pin over Hunter Rowan in 2:43, but the Dogs’ wins stopped there. The rest of Whitefish’s points came in forfeits at 126 and 138.

Then against Frenchtown, Dakota Flannery (138) got another win by pin over the Broncs’ John Warner. Rylee Creasey picked up the team’s other win over Carson Pyron at 152.

Whitefish also won a forfeit at 285.

Head coach Danny Neff said his team was supposed to face off against Lake City and Belgrade, but a last minute change sent them to Frenchtown.

“It was kind of nice because they’re a Class A school, and we competed already, we just need to work on staying aggressive and staying confident out on the mat,” he said.

Then on Friday and Saturday, the Bulldogs competed at the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula.

Flannery was the top Bulldog, taking second at 138.

On day one, Flannery advanced to the semis due to a medical forfeit, but he had to call a medical forefeit of his own in the championship match on Saturday.

At 120, Carter Moran made it into the fourth round of the consolation bracket, but fell to Missoula Sentinel’s Bryson Danzinger by pin.

Brian Sweeney picked up a big win at 285 over Polson’s Alexander Mathewson in the third round of the consolation bracket. Sweeney fell in the next round by pin to Kobe Moreno of Butte.

“Dakota was back for us and competed really well,” Neff said. “Overall, Carter and Brian both made it to the second day. They competed really well [too].”

This week the team will get plenty of mat time in the Class A Duals, which starts Friday at Lewistown.

“It’s going to be really nice just getting out of the valley to see the rest of these Class A talents, seeing how we’re going to stack up,” Neff said. “Our goal is to peak at divisionals, but this is a great step before we have our host tournament.”

“We’re stoked to get down and compete.”
