Despite outscoring Polson 34-25 in the second half, Whitefish couldn’t hold on in Friday’s Northwest A matchup.

The Pirates bested the Dogs 53-52 in the game.

After matching Polson’s 11 points in the first quarter, the Dogs dug themselves a hole in the second, heading into halftime with a 28-18 deficit.

They made up some ground in the third, trimming the lead to seven, and even outscored the Pirates by six in the final frame.

Sam Menicke led Whitefish in scoring with 18, while Polson’s Ryker Wenderoth was the game-high scorer for his team with 21.

The Bulldogs are 3-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Right now the team sits at second to last in the conference, behind Browning, Polson, Libby and Ronan.

They’re going to need to come up with some big wins to make up ground, and this week will give them that chance.

On Friday, Whitefish will host Libby at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday they’ll host Browning at 5:30 p.m.

As part of the Whitefish Winter Carnival, Prince Frey and Princess Freya will be crowned before the start of Friday’s game.
