Organizers of the Whitefish skijoring event want folks to know their event is moving ahead as planned later this month.

The Whitefish World Invitational Ski Joring main events are set for Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 26.

“The event is still scheduled,” Ted Valentiner said on Monday. “We haven’t canceled.”

Apparently there’s been some confusion over whether the Whitefish event is being held after the skijoring event at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell was canceled last month.

Skijoring is a traditional Winter Carnival event that pairs a horse and rider with a skier being pulled through a course that includes gates, hitting jumps and grabbing rings. The duo with the fastest time wins.

The Whitefish skijoring event is set to take place at Big Mountain Ranch off Voerman Road. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies followed by competition at noon on both days.

Registration for open, sport, novice and costume contest divisions takes place on Friday, Jan. 24 from 6-7 p.m. at Grouse Mountain Lodge. The Calcutta event takes place on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Casey’s downtown.

Admission is $8 per adult with ages 12 and under free. Family admission is $20.

Gates open at 10 a.m. and parking is free.
